Postdoctoral Research Fellow DNP NMR
Research Fellow in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Technology University of Nottingham, UK School of Physics & Astronomy Applications are invited for the above post based in the Sir Peter Mansfield Magnetic Resonance Centre which is part of the School of Physics and Astronomy. The successful candidate will lead an ambitious hardware development project that focuses on the the design and implementation of a novel spectrometer for dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP) enhanced NMR spectroscopy. The project involves extensive industrial collaboration and is funded by the Novel Technology Initiative in Cross-disciplinary Sciences of the EPSRC. The project covers the whole field of DNP research, including the testing of novel radicals, theoretical spin dynamics calculations and the design and construction of novel hardware. Candidates should have a PhD in physics, physical chemistry or a related discipline and preferably have experience in one or several of the following fields: Microwave technology, Cryotechnology, Magnetic Resonance hardware technology, Laser Optics. Additional expertise in NMR theory or practical experience with dynamic nuclear polarisation would be beneficial but not essential. Candidates should have good communication skills and enjoy working with a variety of different people across discipline boundaries. This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of three years. Salary will be £27,319 - £31,671 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Biology
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research
Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Ioannis Vakonakis for studies of
proteins involved in centriole assembly. The successful candidate will
join a multidisciplinary collaboration between Oxford and the groups of
Prof. Pierre Gönczy (EPFL) and Dr. Michel Steinmetz (Paul Scherrer
Institute) in Switzerland. Recently, our joint efforts elucidated the
origins of centriolar 9-fold symmetry (Kitagawa, Vakonakis et
al.,Cell144, 364-375, 2011), a critical step in the centrosomal
duplication process that ensures genome stability in animals. We now
seek to build upon this breakthrough by studying the structure/function
relationship of centriolar components such as SAS-6, SAS-5, SAS-4,
ZYG-1, SPD-2 and others. The successful candidate will contribute to the
analysis of these targets using structural (crystallography, solution
NMR and/or small angle scattering) and biophysical methods.
Applicants should possess/be expected to obtain a PhD in natural
sciences and should have experience in aspects of the structural biology
pipeline, for example protein production and purification, NMR
spectroscopy or X-ray crystallography. Past experience with
complementary biophysical techniques (ITC, AUC, CD etc) and biomolecular
interactions is desirable. Previous familiarity with centriolar or
relevant biological systems would be an advantage but is not essential.
