Scholar/Scientist
Position Title: Scholar/Scientist (CHM), Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopist
Appointment: 2 years renewable upon mutual agreement
Department: Chemistry and Biochemistry, Florida State University
Salary Range: $50,000 to negotiable
Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry with specialized training and experience in solid state NMR spectroscopy.
Requirements:
Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of state of the art Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, including solid state NMR.
Skill in the use, maintenance, and operation of modern solution and solid state NMR spectrometers.
Familiarity with NMR data processing software.
Knowledge of and experience with standard solid state pulse sequences.
Ability to implement new solid state pulse sequences.
Ability to identify NMR experiments to solve problems in solid state chemistry.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty in Chemistry & Biochemistry and other departments.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities:
Determine in consultation with faculty and students most effective NMR experiments and define experimental parameters for obtaining high resolution NMR data on a variety of solid materials; communicate results and consult with users regarding further experimentation as necessary. (25%)
Configure solid state NMR spectrometer(s), including rf-pulse sequences for optimum performance; perform routine maintenance on NMR spectrometers including regularly-scheduled cryogen maintenance. (25%)
Train and mentor graduate students and post doctoral associates in the use and applications of modern solid state NMR; supervise and monitor bi-weekly scheduling of time on instrument(s); prepare and deliver periodic lectures on emerging solid state NMR topics. (25%)
Collaborate with Faculty on ssNMR experiments. (25%)
