Postdoctoral research position in Gothenburg, Sweden
*Postdoctoral Research Position within Solution NMR Spectroscopy is available at the Department of Chemistry, University of Gothenburg, Sweden*
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated postdoctoral associate with a solid background in solution NMR spectroscopy to join our group. The position is funded by the European Research Council and is offered for two years, including a three months probationary employment, with possibility for extension.
*Research project:*
The successful candidate will work on several subprojects of a multidisciplinary investigation focusing on understanding the role and behaviour of very weak chemical interactions in solution and in biological contexts. Our collaborative project employs a wide range of synthetic, computational and spectroscopic as well as molecular biological techniques and attempts to reach an improved understanding of a protein-ligand interaction-mediated human disease.
The primary responsibility of the successful applicant will be the investigation of protein-ligand interactions. In addition, the postdoctoral associate will be involved/co-supervise the small molecular NMR studies related to further subprojects run in our group. Direct involvement in protein expression and in electrophysiological studies is also possible.
*Required qualifications:*
The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in chemistry/biochemistry/biophysics or a related field and have complete her/his thesis defense by September, 2010. Experience with protein NMR spectroscopy is a requirement. The applicant must have already solved solution structures of proteins, having published at least one first-author manuscript describing the atomic structure of a protein or a protein-ligand complex. Familiarity with paramagnetic NMR, RDC-based structure elucidation and small molecular NMR techniques is seen as a strong merit. Good publication record, fluency in English, high motivation and excellent social competence as well as ability to learn new techniques are expected. Experience in molecular biology, computation or synthetic organic chemistry will be beneficial.
*Expected Starting date: *September-December 2010.
