Research project : Caracterisation of interface and diffusion in "host-guest" systems by 129Xe-NMR and by pulsed field gradients NMR
Novel systems for guidance and vectorization of functional molecules have been under extensive development during the last decades and have lead in particular to imagine systems of encapsulation, such as MCM silicas. The main objective of this project is to obtain, by NMR, information on the dynamics of molecules, their distribution in the porous space, and in particular a better understanding of the nature of the physico-chemical interactions between the porous network and these molecules. Hyperpolarised Xenon NMR will constitute the major experimental technique, using in particular 2D exchange spectroscopy (EXSY) 129Xe NMR and polarization transfer experiments.
Another approach for a better understanding of the mobility of the organic phase would be the application of pulsed field gradients NMR to these systems in order to measure the diffusion coefficients of the encapsulated molecules. However the slow movements and largely anisotropic environment constitute a challenge that can be both overcome by the combination of large field gradients and magic angle spinning of the sample.
Profile : Ideally the candidate should have experience in either xenon or PFG NMR but solid state spectroscopists are encouraged to apply.
